दिल्ली: सुप्रीम कोर्ट से कांग्रेस नेता नवजोत सिंह सिद्धू को बड़ा झटका लगा है। कोर्ट ने सिद्धू को 34 साल पुराने रोड रेज मामले में एक साल कारावास की सजा सुनाई है। जस्टिस एएम खानविलकर और जस्टिस संजय किशन कौल की बेंच ने यह फैसला सुनाया है। अदालत ने अपने 15 मई, 2018 के एक हजार रुपये के जुर्माने की सजा को बदल दिया है। कोर्ट के फैसले के बाद सिद्धू ने अपनी प्रतिक्रिया दी है। उन्होंने कहा कि वह कोर्ट के आदेश का पालन करेंगे।
मीडिया रिपोर्ट्स के अनुसार रोडरेज का केस 34 साल पुराना है। नवजोत सिंह सिद्धू के साथ हुई यह घटना 1988 की है। पंजाब के पटियाला में 27 दिसंबर 1988 को नवजोत सिद्धू ने बीच सड़क पर अपनी गाड़ी पार्क कर रखी थी। उसी समय गुरनाम सिंह दो अन्य लोगों के साथ बैंक से पैसा निकालने के लिए जा रहे थे। बीच सड़क पर गाड़ी देखकर सिद्धू से उसे हटाने को कहा था। बहस के बाद नवजोत सिंह सिद्धू ने पीड़ित के साथ मारपीट की थी और मौके से फरार हो गए। मारपीट के कारण गुरनाम घायल हो गए थे। लोग उन्हें अस्पताल ले गए, जहां डॉक्टरों ने उसे मृत घोषित कर दिया था।
बताया जा रहा है कि सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने गुरुवार को आईपीसी की धारा 304 ए के तहत गैर इरादतन हत्या के लिए सिद्धू को दोषी ठहराने की गुरनाम सिंह के परिवार की याचिका को खारिज कर दिया। हालांकि कोर्ट ने सिद्धू को धारा 323 के तहत अधिकतम सजा दी। इसके तहत नवजोत सिंह सिद्धू को एक साल के कारावास की सजा दी गई है। फैसले के बाद पंजाब पुलिस ने कांग्रेस नेता को गिरफ्तार करने की तैयारी कर ली है। पुलिस उन्हें सजा काटने के लिए पटियाला जेल भेज जा सकती है।
